Economic Resilience

Research by Experian Public Sector on the economic resilience of England's regions is underpinning a national debate ahead of the Comprehensive Spending Review.

In order to provide a complete view of local and regional resilience across England and Wales, Experian Public Sector compiled a national ranking which gathered data across four key themes covering: business, people, place and community.

Commissioned by the BBC and verified by independent statistical experts, the research provides insight into the ability of a local area to ‘bounce back’, taking into account factors beyond simply business strength and economic growth, and including over 30 different indicators. This work informed a series of regional debates across the UK – aired on BBC TV and radio.

Experian’s resilience analysis is based upon local authority district level data grouped into the 12 BBC regions for comparison purposes. In total we report 324 local authority districts (City of London and Isles of Scilly have not been included due to data confidence issues).

The 12 BBC regions are not directly comparable with standard Government Office Regions. However the local authority district level data can be grouped to other geographies.
